• Europe produces but a small fraction of its natural graphite consumption (currently about 100,000 tonnes/year) from small mines in Norway and Austria (~8,000 t/a).

• Several projects under development (Sweden, Finland).

• Most graphite imported from China, and Mozambique.

• By 2030 demand for graphite forecast to rise to 500,000 tonnes/year.

• Graphite declared a Strategic Commodity by the EU.

• Graphite initiative supported by EU grants and legislative acts for fast tracking development of domestic graphite supply.
